Verdict reserved on bail plea of Godhra accused

By Our Special Correspondent

AHMEDABAD Dec. 29. The special court for trial of the cases under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) today reserved its verdict till January 17, on the bail applications of 19 accused in the Godhra train carnage case. The judge, Sonia Gokani, heard the advocates of both the government and the accused before reserving a decision on their bail plea, mostly on health grounds.

The crime branch police also moved the court for declaring 39 accused in the case, including Dawood Ibrahim, as absconders. Dawood and others had been listed by the police as accused and had filed charge-sheets against them in absentia.

Meanwhile, Siraj Jamsa, one of the prime accused in the train carnage, who was released on bail in July on health grounds, died of cancer in Godhra. One of the first to be arrested in this connection, Jamsa was staying at his residence since being released on bail and was under medical care.
