Procter was forced to investigate the matter when told that a repair had been made to the pitch before the start of play on the final day of the match on Tuesday. "I noticed an area had been replaced on the pitch. The umpires noticed it and spoke to the groundsmen. They were told that in brushing away, which groundsmen do, they brushed the whole pitch and a piece got removed. The groundsman (Tony Ware) replaced that. The umpires asked him to leave the pitch as it was at the end of the day's play yesterday. So he took out that little piece and the umpires were happy that the pitch was in same state as it was yesterday,'' said Procter at the end of the match. "It was in a reasonable length area. It would probably have come into play with a left-arm over bowling to a left-hander or right-arm round bowling to the left-hander or right hander."
