Letters to the Editor
Sir, The backwardness of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Castes is, no doubt, the fallout of the centuries-old caste system. But reservation can only provide for the financial wellbeing of the backward classes. The socio-economic status of an individual is a much more complicated issue. Successive governments have not worked out an alternative to reservation. For all political parties, caste groups constitute solid vote banks.
