ULFA urged to give up sovereignty demand

By Barun Das Gupta

GUWAHATI Dec. 30. The Assam Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi, today urged the ULFA leaders to give up their demand for sovereignty and come forward for unconditional talks with the Centre.

``They should realise that any Government committed to the Constitution cannot accept the demand,'' he told reporters here.Mr. Gogoi said the ULFA leader, Paresh Barua's insistence on sovereignty for Assam only meant that he was not interested in talks. He should realise that the people want only development and timely implementation of the projects on hand.
