According to police, the girl was going to board an Air France flight (AF-147) to Los Angeles with a friend on Monday, when she was intercepted by immigration officials who suspected that her passport was forged.
The passport identified her as a Singapore national, Sim Sueng.
During interrogation, she first claimed that she was going to the United States with her boyfriend, Kok Yong. However, later she broke down and confessed that the passport was forged. She said her real name was Yong You Hui and that she was a resident of Wei province of China.
Earlier this month, she had been to Singapore where she met Kok Yong, who worked as a `carrier' for a human trafficking racket. He offered to take her to the U.S. via India for $4,000.
Yong You Hui agreed to pay the amount and the duo went to Nepal on December 26. There they obtained a passport issued in the name of Sim Sueng.
The two came to India on December 26 and stayed in a Paharganj hotel.
A police team that went to the hotel found out that the couple had made some phone calls to another hotel in the same area.
The calls were traced to a room booked by a Chinese national from Taiwan, Nai Kuang, who, police said, turned out to be the human trafficking agent operating in the Capital.
Investigations have revealed that the racket was spread over several countries.
