By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI DEC. 30. The State-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL) on Tuesday claimed that power generation in the country received a boost in the first eight months (April-November) of the current fiscal as a result of "excellent performance" of BHEL-built thermal sets. These achieved record generation of 204.48 billion units against 201.03 billion units in the corresponding period last year. A BHEL release says the operating availability (OA) of these sets touched 82.3 per cent. These include the Dahanu Thermal Power Station in Maharashtra equipped with two BHEL built units of 250 MW which operated at an impressive plant load factor of 101.4 per cent. In addition, 21 thermal stations operating at Bhatinda, Dahanu, Sabarmati Extension, Vijaywada, Mettur, Simhadri, Singrauli, Rayalseema, Tuticorin, Korba, Badarpur, Unchahar, Ramagundam, CESC, Raichur, Nashik, Dadri, Khaparkheda, Neyveli, Kota, IB Valley and Trombay maintained a PLF of over 80 per cent.
