'DMK, MDMK move expected'

By Our Special Correspondent

MUMBAI Dec. 30. The severance of the relationship by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, with the National Democratic Alliance was "expected," the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, said here today.

Asked if any effort would be made to bring back both parties to the Alliance, Mr. Advani told presspersons that the two parties "were not practically in the NDA now."

To a question if there was any effort to work out a tie-up with the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, he merely acknowledged that "some parties" had supported the NDA on issues.

The DMK had broken its relationship with the Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP much earlier and after the death of one of the DMK Ministers in the Union Cabinet — Murasoli Maran — some "developments occurred." When the reconstitution of the NDA is taken up before the elections, then the departure of the DMK and the MDMK would have to be reckoned with, Mr. Advani said.
