India, Pakistan to exchange nuclear lists

ISLAMABAD Dec. 30. India and Pakistan will exchange on Thursday, January 1, lists of their nuclear installations and facilities as stipulated under the Agreement on the Prohibition of Attack Against Nuclear Installations and Facilities between India and Pakistan, 1988.

The exchange, which would take place simultaneously through diplomatic channels in Islamabad and New Delhi, would be the 13th occasion wherein the two countries have undertaken such an exercise. While the agreement was signed in 1988, it came into force in 1991.

Under the agreement, the two countries are to inform each other on January 1 of every calendar year of the nuclear installations and facilities to be covered by the Agreement. The first such exchange of lists took place on January 1, 1992.

Even at the height of tensions at the end of 2001, both the countries exchanged information on nuclear installations and demonstrated their commitment against attacking each other's nuclear installations much to the relief of the rest of the world.
