Kola Venkata Krishna Mohan of Vijayawada, who is facing the charge of cheating people with a claim that he won the Euro Lottery of Rs. 80 crores, was arrested by the police on Tuesday on the charge of cheating some persons by collecting deposits from them for selling Mak Donalds chicken and mutton but failing to provide the outlets as promised. The Commissioner of Police, B. Prasada Rao, at a press conference here on Tuesday announced the arrest of Krishna Mohan and his son and managing partner, Kola Sai Kalyan, in connection with three cases. The two accused persons were produced before newsmen. Another son of Krishna Mohan, K.V. Kiran Kumar, who is also a managing partner, is absconding. According to Mr. Prasada Rao, Krishna Mohan shifted to the city seven months ago and opened Mak Donalds outlet at Waltair upland on October 5 to pack and sell fresh chicken and mutton and also supply biryani to customers at the doorstep. In order to develop his business he offered outlets of his enterprise and collected deposits. He rented another house in TPT Colony for packing chicken and mutton while air-conditioners, deep freezers and steel counters were taken from a showroom opposite the Andhra Pradesh Transco building. Only a part of the payment for the materials was made. It was alleged that Koduru Satyavathi of Allipuram and K. Mani Prakash of Malkapuram, who paid Rs.1 lakh each as deposit, were not provided the outlets and the deposit was also not returned. Later, he issued a cheque to Ms. Mani Prakash which bounced when she deposited in the bank. On complaints filed by Ms. Satyavathi and Ms. Mani Prakash, two cases were booked against Krishna Mohan and others under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code at IV Town police station while another case was booked under the same section at II Town police station. Some documents like chequebooks, bank passbooks and passports were seized from the residence of Krishna Mohan after a search. The IV Town police arrested Krishna Mohan and Sai Kalyan on Tuesday and produced them before the III Metropolitan Magistrate for judicial custody. It was alleged that Krishna Mohan had introduced himself to the depositors with variations in his name like Kala Mohana Rao, Kola Mohana Rao and Kala Rammohana Rao. A case of impersonation might be filed against him. The Police Commissioner of Vijayawada was contacted to get details of the Euro Lottery case in which the accused person had allegedly cheated people of over Rs.5 crores. An allegation that Krishna Mohan had promised help to voluntary organisations from foreign agencies was also being probed, he said. Meanwhile, Krishna Mohan talking to reporters said a minimum deposit of Rs.5,000 was collected and receipt given for every deposit. The total amount he collected was Rs.1.25 lakhs, he claimed. An outlet, for which Rs.65,000 was collected from a woman, was cancelled but there was delay in paying back the deposit, he said. He, however, refused to comment on the Euro Lottery case.
