This Day That Age
Western diplomatic quarters in London expressed surprise at a statement by Admiral Sohn of South Korea that the United Nations would use atomic weapons if there was renewed Communist aggression in Korea. A British Foreign Office spokesman said the question had not been considered at all by the nations whose forces were in Korea. No mention been made of possible use of atomic weapons, by Mr. John Fuster Dulles, U.S. Secretary of State, at his press conference in London. He said the U.S. the only other U.N. member with forces in Korea and possessing atomic weapons, had not given any indication to Britain that she intended to use them if hostilities were resumed.
