M.V. Pylee award for educationist

KOCHI DEC. 31. K. Venkatasubramanian, noted educationist and economist, has been selected for the Professor M.V. Pylee award for distinguished academician of India 2003.

The triennial award carries a cash component of Rs. 2 lakhs, a memento and a citation. The award was instituted by the Cochin University of Science and Technology from an endowment created by the former CUSAT Vice-Chancellor, Prof. M.V. Pylee.

Dr. Venkatasubramanian, a member of the Planning Commission, has authored 26 books, most of which are in the field of knowledge. He co-authored the Knowledge Task Force Report of the Planning Commission along with the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, when the latter was the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Central Government.

Dr. Venkatasubramanian, a recipient of the Silver Elephant National Award and the Shirdi Sai Bhaba National Gold Medal for Excellence in Higher Education, is also a member of the Indian delegation to UNESCO.

Prof. M. N. Srinivas, social scientist, Dr. J.V. Narlikar, astrophysicist, and Dr. J.V. Narlikar, medical technologist, were the earlier recipients of the award.
