Kumaratunga hints at early parliamentary polls

Colombo Dec. 31. Eager to end the political crisis in the island nation, the Sri Lankan President, Chandrika Kumaratunga, has hinted at holding snap parliamentary polls early in the New Year. ``If the Prime Minister and his Government is not prepared to come to an understanding, I will be forced to move towards a democratic alternative,'' Ms. Kumaratunga's office quoted her as saying over State radio today.
