Kaif ruled out of tri-series

KOLKATA JAN. 2. Mohammad Kaif, named to the Indian team for the three-nation VB series to be played in Australia from January 9, has been ruled out owing to a thumb injury he sustained during the Asian `A' teams triangular cricket tournament held here.

Confirming this on Friday, the Board secretary, Mr. S. K. Nair, said Kaif's replacement would be named within a couple of days after consulting the National selectors.

Kaif was injured during the recently concluded `A' teams tournament and had to miss the final league game against Pakistan `A' and the final. Kaif was included in the 16-member Indian squad as he was expected to be fit within a week. Kaif was asked to consult the renowned orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Anant Joshi, in Mumbai. The dropping meant that he failed to get the nod from the surgeon.
