``Terrorism and ecological degradation are two major `rakshasas' (demons) against whom peace lovers all over world should fight unitedly,'' he said inaugurating ``Peace education for contemporary concerns'' international conference here. The three-day conference is being attended by scholars from India and abroad, including members from the U.S., Canada, Japan, Israel and Iran. Pointing out that Indian culture is opposed to war, he said ``peace or non-violence is the first preaching of Hindu dharma which also calls for tolerance, social justice and co-existence between different social groups and nations''. ``India has consistently followed it,'' Tiwari added. Addressing the inaugural session, Jammu University Vice-Chancellor Amitabh Mattoo said positive peace is the end of all structural forms of violence. Gandhian scholar Michael said peace is needed today much more than any other time in history. He said the civil society should be reconstructed by fighting poverty, hunger and disease. The convenor of the conference, Naresh Dadhich, said there are three prominent concerns today -- violence, social injustice, and human rights abuse. -- PTI
