It's Buddha Jayanti Park again

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI JAN. 5. In a bizarre incident, two miscreants wearing khaki jersey and posing as policemen allegedly extorted money from a man and fled with the trousers of his friend in the ridge forest area adjoining Buddha Jayanti Park in New Delhi today. The police said two girls accompanying the victims were spared by the culprits.

According to the police, Chandra Ballabh and his friend, Manoj, had come to the park this afternoon along with the two girls, who work with them in one Gulati Exports of Gurgaon in Haryana. However, they crossed an iron fencing separating the park from the forest area and entered the dense wood. There they were intercepted by two middle-aged men who told them that it was a thick forest area and they won't find their way out.

The duo then extorted Rs. 50 from Manoj to show him the right way to Buddha Jayanti Park. Chandra Ballabh apparently offered resistance, on which one of the miscreants overpowered him and forced him to remove his trousers.

Meanwhile, the miscreants asked the girl accompanying Chandra Ballabh to flee from there and tied his hands behind his back. They fled with his trousers containing his wallet.

The police earlier received a complaint that one of the girls had been abducted. However, investigations revealed that she had reached home. She told the police that the culprits did not misbehave with her. Hence, the police have registered a case of extortion and launched a hunt for the culprits.

Earlier last year, four Presidential ceremonial guards had allegedly criminally assaulted a first year Delhi University student, who had entered the forest area along with her friend. Soon after the incident, the police presence was increased inside the park.

Almost one battalion force, including plainclothes police personnel, was deployed in the area. The police also asked the Forest Department to repair the fence, but it has not been done so far.
