dated January 7, 1954: Nehru Advocates Gandhi's Way

Speaking at the opening of the Gandhi Gnana Mandir in Wardha, Prime Minister, Mr. Nehru referred to Acharya Vinoba Bhave's message describing Gandhi Gnana, saying it synthesises physical science and atma gnana namely spiritual science. Western countries, progressing in the physical sciences, acquired power to subdue several nations of which India was one. Atma gnana was necessary for directing the use of science for human good. Mr. Nehru emphasised, "The Gandhian path is necessary today in India and the world. The Gandhian way will provide a solution for our problems... There is now the proposed military pact between the U.S. and Pakistan. We must not criticise other nations. Pakistan might have her own fears and difficulties and America is a great, powerful nation. We want to be friendly with both. The Gandhian way makes us avoid showing resentment to them, and to strengthen ourselves through unity, removing everything that can weaken our nation. The prestige that India has gained in world is through Gandhiji's ideology, Gandhi gnana, and our sincere effort to follow that path."
