The fracture was detected by the driver of the Howrah-bound Howrah Amritsar Express who felt a jerk while the train was passing on the line. He immediately stopped the train near a level crossing. A survey of the spot revealed a fracture in about a meter of track. The matter was soon reported to the railway officials who repaired the track around 1 am. Some trains, including the Shalimar Express, the Frontier Express and the Pooja Express, were stopped at the Goraya or Ludhiana railway stations till the repair of the track. The railway and the police officials were investigating whether some disruptive elements were involved in the damage to the track. -- UNI
