BJP, INLD parting ways in Haryana

Sonepat Jan 6. The BJP appeared to be parting ways with INLD in Haryana with the Union Minister of State for Home, I. D. Swami, saying his party was contemplating contesting elections on its own as the alliance partner ``failed to come up to the expectations''.

``BJP workers are not satisfied with the style of functioning of the Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala, and they are pressing party high command to disassociate with INLD and contest Assembly elections independently'', he told reporters here yesterday.

Swami said the party high command was considering ``this question'' at the national level and would take a decision before the next Lok Sabha elections.

The party was strong in urban and rural areas of the state and it could contest the coming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections independently, the BJP leader said.

BJP and INLD have a seat sharing for five Lok Sabha seats each in the state, he said.

The Minister said the BJP would hold a rally in Haryana on March 14 which would be addressed by several national and state leaders. The main aim of the rally was to show the party strength and strengthen its base, he said.

To make the rally a success, the party would hold yatras in each district covering villages and towns and mobilising people, Swami said.

He claimed that Congress which was trying to ally with other so-called secular forces to defeat BJP would never succeed in its efforts. -- PTI
