Central funds for rural drinking water supply
NEW DELHI
JAN. 6.
The Ministry of Rural Development has released funds to Andhra Pradesh for rural drinking water supply and sanitation during 2003-04. An amount of Rs. 58.44 crores has been released towards second instalment of funds against the provisional allocation of Rs. 116.88 crores under the Accelerated Rural water Supply Programme (ARWSP).
Of this amount, the State will ensure that 15 per cent of funds released under this sanction amounting to Rs. 870.60 lakhs will be spent exclusively on water quality-affected habitations, 5 per cent (Rs. 292.20 lakhs) for taking sustainability measures and 15 per cent (amounting to Rs. 876.60 lakh) on maintenance through Panchayati Raj institutions who will be delegated the responsibility of supply of drinking water in the rural areas.
The Ministry has released Rs 7.12 crores towards the second instalment of the programme funds against provisional allocation of Rs. 14.24 crores for 2003-04.
