6,800 tonnes rice sanctioned under food security scheme
ANANTAPUR
JAN. 6.
The State Government has sanctioned 6,808 tonnes of rice to the district towards provision of food security to 1,13,468 elderly and destitute persons from January to June this year.
The beneficiaries will be given 10 kg of rice every month instead of drought pensions. In his recent orders, the Joint Collector, Shashibhushan Kumar, instructed the mandal revenue officers of all the 63 mandals in the district to select the beneficiaries in rural areas. It has been directed to select 50 per cent of the beneficiaries from the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities and the ratio should be followed at the mandal level. The Antyodaya and Annapurna card holders, all pension holders like old age pensioners, those getting gratuitous relief, widow pensioners and disabled pensioners are not eligible for the drought pensions. The nodal teams have been directed to conduct gram sabhas and assess the position of beneficiaries selected in March 2003 for final selection for the drought pensions. The MROs have been told to ensure distribution of drought pension rice coupons by January 10.
