Workshop on `Gram Ganaraj' on January 22

DHARWAD JAN. 6. Gram Ganarajya Vedike, a forum working for empowerment of panchayats, in association with the National Committee for Protection of Natural Resources and the Jan Vikas Andolan, will organise a workshop on "Gram Ganaraj" on January 22 at Ranebennur in Haveri district.

Dileep Singh Bhuria, Chairman of the National Commission on Scheduled Areas and Scheduled Tribes, will inaugurate it. A symbolic "non-cooperation" movement will be inaugurated at Haranageri village in Ranibennur taluk for the implementation of the 73rd Amendment to the Constitution, Panchayat Extension to Scheduled Areas Act, 1996, on January 24 by Rabi Ray, former Speaker of the Lok Sabha. On January 25, a "Sankalp'' conference will be held at Ranebennur. Mr. Ray will inaugurate it. M.K. Prasad, Chairman of the National Committee for Protection of Natural Resources, will deliver the keynote address. A jatha to mobilise people for these programmes was launched on January 2. The jatha from Venkategowda Palya in Gubbi taluk of Tumkur district will end at Naganur village in Belgaum district on January 10. The jatha will pass through Tumkur, Mysore, Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Bellary, Bagalkot, Gulbarga, and Bijapur districts.
