We have the potential to become the best: Ganguly

SYDNEY JAN. 6. Sourav Ganguly rated the current Indian team as competitive and talented enough to emerge as the best in the future. "I know some terrible things were said about us before we left home. Our performance is the answer to them. We always knew we could compete well because it's a talented team with a vision to be the best in the world in times to come. At present, there's no doubt that Australia is the No. 1 team in the world. We believe in ourselves. We don't get put off by criticism," Ganguly said.

The Indian skipper was disappointed that India did not win the Sydney Test. "We could've done better but then (Murali) Kartik was playing after a long time. (Anil) Kumble was amazing. He just kept running in. And (Irfan) Pathan was outstanding on this deck.''

Ganguly praised the young team. "It's different in work ethics and team spirit. The ability of the players is also good. I must say Akash (Chopra) did a fantastic job. He had played just two Tests before he came on this tough tour and he really played very well. He has to, however, learn to convert good starts into big scores.''

Rahul Dravid, the man of the series, said: "everyone can improve and if it happens, there are better things to come for the team. The way this series has been played and watched back home is a big boost not just for Indo-Australian cricket but Test cricket as well. We really value Test cricket.'' — Our Special Correspondent
