Sonia wants PM to improve farm credit

NEW DELHI JAN. 6. The Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, has urged the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, to improve agricultural credit and review its present policies.

In a letter to Mr. Vajpayee, she said the present package of policies governing agricultural credit had been a source of distress and hindered the growth of the sector.

"It has weakened the ability of the sector to respond to the changes that have been driven by the World Trade Organisation requirements,'' Ms. Gandhi said.
