Woman relieved of gold chain

BANGALORE JAN. 6. Two persons, who allegedly posed as policemen, duped a woman of her gold chain worth Rs. 25,000 near LIC Colony in Yelahanka Satellite Town on Tuesday, according to the police.

Police said the victim, Sarojamma, was returning home from a temple at about 7 a.m. when the two approached her in the guise of policemen. They reportedly told her that it was unsafe to wear an expensive gold chain and offered to wrap it in paper.

She obliged and reportedly handed over the chain to them, who gave back a paper packet, police said. On reaching home, Sarojamma opened the packet to find stones inside. Yelahanka New Town police are investigating.

Chain snatched: Shakuntala, a housewife, was relieved of her gold chain worth Rs. 20,000 by a motorcyclist in Girinagar Police Station limits on Monday, according to the police.

Police said Shakuntala was on her way to pick up her daughter from school when the culprit came from behind and snatched the gold chain.

Suicide: An autorickshaw driver, Devaraj (30), allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself following a quarrel with his wife at their residence in Hebbal Police Station limits on Tuesday night.

Police said Devaraj's wife had gone out for shopping at about 8 p.m. when he committed suicide. The couple were married for nine years and had two children. Hebbal police have registered a case.

Arrested: Vijayanagar Police have arrested Asif Pasha (20), a resident of Goripalya, and recovered gold jewellery worth Rs. 60,000 from him. The ornaments were allegedly stolen from two houses in Vijayanagar, police said.

Accident: A cyclist, aged about 30, was reportedly knocked down fatally by a vehicle at Singasandra on Hosur Road in Madiwala Police Station limits on Monday.

The victim died on the spot. The body was shifted to Victoria hospital.
