dated January 8, 1954: Indian Classics for the West

Eight classics in five Indian languages were to be translated into English, French, and possibly Spanish, under the auspices of the United Nations Scientific Economic and Cultural Organisation, Mr. Prem Kirpal, its Deputy Director, told PTI in New Delhi. They were Go-Daan by Premchand (Urdu), Krishnakantar's Will by Bankim Chandra Chatterji (Bengali), Tirukkural and Kamba Ramayanam (Tamil), Gyaneshwari and Tukaramache Abhang (Marathi), Ram Charit Manas by Tulsi Das and Kamayani by Jai Shanker Prashad (Hindi).
