Talks on reorganisation of polling stations

PERAMBALUR JAN.7. The Collector, S. Natarajan, on Tuesday held discussion with representatives of various political parties on the proposed reorganisation of polling stations in Perambalur and Varahur Assembly constituencies. The consultative meeting was held as per the direction of the Election Commission.

At present, 184 polling stations in Perambalur Assembly constituency, 172 in Varahur constituency, 157 in Ariyalur, 161 in Jayankondam and 142 in Andimadam constituency have been set up. On the direction of the Election Commission, separate polling stations, which functioned in the same campus for men and women, have been merged.

He said efforts would be taken to set up new booths if the polling stations set up under the new arrangement were more than two km away from the local residential localities.

Representatives of political parties including Palai Amaramoorthy (Congress), P. Duraisamy, Alathur Krishnamoorthy (DMK), Ramalingam (BJP), Maruthai Raj (AIADM), Vibooshanan (MDMK), and Venugopal (CPI) participated.
