India & World
By P. S. Suryanarayana
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson made this politically evocative comment while welcoming the latest announcement by India and Pakistan to hold a "comprehensive dialogue," as Beijing described it, "shortly." Today's statement in Beijing was the second on the latest meeting between the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and the Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, as also the outcome of their parleys. In the first comment, made in the specific context of the meeting before its outcome was announced, China welcomed their summit and appreciated the efforts of the two leaders to improve the relationship between their countries.
