Straw welcomes `breakthrough'

LONDON JAN. 7. Britain has hailed the "breakthrough'' in India-Pakistan relations and praised leaders of the two countries for their "courage'' and "commitment'' to peace.

In a statement, the Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, said that the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and the Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, had demonstrated their "courage, statesmanship and commitment to addressing each other's concerns, and normalising the relationship between the two countries.''
