Bihar bandh peaceful

By Our Staff Correspondent

PATNA JAN. 7. The Bihar bandh called by Left parties to protest the Centre's alleged failure on the economic front and the State Government's apathy towards controlling the crime situation evoked a mixed response and passed off peacefully today.

The supporters of the bandh disrupted train and road traffic and police intervention was sought to restore order. The Grand Trunk Road was blocked at Sasaram, while the National Highway was paralysed at the zero mile in Begusarai, disrupting long distance routes.

Trains were detained at quite a few points, including Patna, Rohtas, Samastipur, Begusarai and Bhojpur districts, throwing services into a disarray. The CPI-ML supporters locked up the Station Master of Nadaul and jammed the Patna-Gaya section for well over seven hours. Police rescued the station master and restored movement of trains.
