By Our Staff Reporter

Pondicherry Jan. 7. The Pondicherry BJP today urged the Government to take steps to order a CBI enquiry into the alleged land grabbing by miscreants in the Union Territory.

A resolution adopted at a meeting of the executive committee of the party held under the chairmanship of the State unit president, R. Kesavalu, here today said that the instance of grabbing of private property, which had rocked Pondicherry in the past during the previous DMK regime, had now resurfaced in the present Congress rule also. The issue had brought down the inflow of investors into Pondicherry from France and ultimately the Union Territory's economy had also suffered a setback.

The resolution said that the Government should take practical steps to requisition the CBI investigation.

The party also urged enactment of Goondas Act to deal with the bootleggers and also those holding poor to ransom under usury system of money lending in various centres.

An anti-conversion legislation on the lines introduced in Tamil Nadu should also be enforced in Pondicherry, the meeting urged through another resolution.

The Government should present before the Centre all the documents in justification of its plea for Statehood with special category status for Pondicherry.

Other resolutions adopted at the meeting sought expeditious steps by the Centre to declare Tamil as a classical language, permanent measures to ensure peace in coastal villages, steps to ease the problems faced by industrial and textile workers and also farmers particularly the sugarcane growers.

The scheduled tribes residing in Pondicherry should be recognised and the basic amenities for them including house site pattas should be sanctioned without delay.

The Union Minister of State for Industries and Commerce, Vidyasagar Rao who addressed the meeting of the executive committee unveiled a portrait of former Lt Governor, K.R. Malkani and paid homage to him.

Copies of resolutions adopted at the meeting were released at a press conference by the general Secretary of the party, Ragu Sundararaman in the presence of the Secretary of the national committee of the party, Lalitha Kumaramangalam.
