They were arrested on the basis of information provided by four persons, who were held on January 3 after fake currency worth Rs 4.72 lakh was recovered from their possession, the district police chief, G S Bhullar, said. During interrogation, it was revealed that one of the arrested, Kesar Singh, had gone to Dubai in 1997 on a work permit and stayed in that country illegally after his visa expired. He was caught by the Dubai police and sent to jail, where he came into contact of one Jagtar, who roped him into the racket, Mr. Bhullar said. Kesar was given fake currency worth Rs one lakh in lieu of genuine currency of Rs 50,000 and the police recovered fake currency worth Rs 25,000 from him at the time of his arrest, he added. Other accused, Sukhchain also came in contact with Jagtar in Dubai only, who gave him fake currency worth Rs two lakh but only Rs 30,000 were recovered from him. Some fake currency was recovered from another accused Baljit, whom, Sukhchain had given the same, Mr. Bhullar said. The fourth accused Deepa was caught with fake currency worth Rs 10,000, which was given to him by Boota, who was arrested by the police on January 3, he said, adding more arrests and recovery would be effected shortly.-- PTI
