Price of Nandini milk to be revised soon
MANIPAL
JAN. 7.
The President of the Dakshina Kannada Milk Producers' Union, Kaup Diwakar Shetty, on Wednesday said the price of Nandini milk in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts would be revised shortly.
He told presspersons here that an increase in the price of milk had become inevitable as the union had not increased it in the past four years. So far, the union had been making good the losses through sale proceeds. But there had been an increase in power tariff and other overheads, making an increase in the price of milk inevitable, he said. The commission for agents selling Nandini milk would be increased from 30 paise to 40 paise.
The Uttara Kannada Milk Producers' Union would shortly merge with the union, he disclosed and added that talks in this connection were in the final stages.
Three fodder centres had been established in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts at Mudrangady, Savarnur, and Hebri to provide quality fodder to farmers. Presently, 47 tonnes of ghee was being sold.
This would be increased to 100 tonnes, Mr. Shetty said. A ghee unit would be set up at Manipal Dairy. Products such as Nandini curds, Peda, Mysore Pak, homogenised milk, and flavoured milk would be produced at the dairy, he said.
Over 400 automated milk collection centres would be set up in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts.
The support price for milk would be increased, Mr. Shetty said and added that most of the milk societies would be computerised.
He said the capacity of the Mangalore Milk Dairy would be increased. As many as 10 bulk milk coolers had been installed with assistance from the National Dairy Development Board.
Mr. Shetty said the renovated Manipal Dairy Complex would be inaugurated by the Dharmadhakari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, D. Veerendra Heggade, on January 9.
The Managing Director of the union, Venkataram, and Gopal Shetty and Vadiraj Shetty, directors, were present.
