A remarkable development: Advani

On board Special Aircraft Jan. 7 . Observing that the new thaw in India- Pakistan relations could turn out to be "historic," the Deputy Prime Minister, L. K. Advani, said today that the "breakthrough" would strengthen the country's security besides adding to the "feel-good" factor at the international level.

"A breakthrough has been achieved in the India-Pakistan relations... It is a remarkable development," Mr. Advani told reporters accompanying him to Surat. He said the developments, including the decision to have composite dialogue and issuance of a joint press statement on Mr. Vajpayee's talks with the Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, were "very significant" and could turn out to be "historic." — PTI
