Partly cloudy

CHENNAI JAN. 7. A very light rain is possible in some areas on Thursday and the minimum temperature will be around 22 degree Celsius. The sky will remain partly cloudy.

On Wednesday, the maximum temperature at Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam was 28 and 28.8 degree Celsius respectively, while the minimum was 23.2 and 21 degree Celsius. The humidity level stood at 72 per cent in both the places.

Power cut

Power supply will be suspended in Mandaveli, Tondiarpet and Chepauk areas between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on January 9 for maintenance work.

Blood donation

A total of 444 persons donated blood in camps organised by the Rotary Central TTK VHS recently. The camps were held at TVS Electronics, Guindy, and at SIRC of ICAI, Nungambakkam, a release said.

Scheme for aged Vedic scholars

Veda Pata Nidhi Trust, a city-based organisation, is launching a donation scheme for providing a monthly endowment to aged indigent Vedic scholars. The Kanchi Acharya, Jayendra Saraswathi, will launch the scheme at a function on Thursday. Those who wish to contribute to the scheme can contact the Trust at 18-22 East Mada Street, Mylapore, Chennai 600 004.

Bank branch inaugurated

Shyamal Saxena, Head-Branch Banking (South), HDFC Bank, inaugurated the bank's 12th branch at Tambaram on Tuesday.

Free course

The Confederation of Indian Industries, the MGR Institute of Hotel Management and the Catering Technology along with Taj Group of Hotels will conduct a free course on hospitality education. The programme is specifically designed for candidates from rural areas and economically weaker sections. Book released

A book on all 14 chapters of Tholkappiam was released by K. Kalimuthu, Speaker, on Monday.
