TTD takes possession of 24 shops in Tirumala
By Our Special Correspondent
TIRUMALA. Jan. 8. As part of the implementation of the master plan to give a face-lift to locales around the temple of Lord Venkateswara and to decongest the environs to cope with the increasing pilgrim influx, the TTD today took possession of 24 shops dotting the Sannadhi street running opposite the temple.
Shop-owners offered no resistance, as the operation after initial hiccups was now being carried-out smoothly with mutual consent between the TTD and local people. All those displaced were provided `temporary alternative shops' in the Rambagicha area parallel to Sannadhi street.
It may be recalled that the TTD which is enforcing the master plan provisions in full swing in and around the temple complex, has already dismantled the ancient 1000-Pillar Mandapam and the Akhilandam, located opposite the temple for the benefit of pilgrims who desired to break coconuts and light camphor as the same is not allowed inside the temple. With operational and legal hurdles removed, the way is now paved for construction of `Raja Gopuram', proposed under the multi-dimensional and multi-crore `Maha Prakaram' project.
