Power Grid official clarifies

ANANTAPUR, JAN. 8. The Chief Manager of the Gooty sub-station of Power Grid Corporation of India, H.S. Siddappa, has said that he had requested the Assistant Director of Mines and Geology, Anantapur, to stop stone quarrying by blasting near their 440-KV Gooty-Bangalore transmission line at Kodimi village in Anantapur rural mandal.

In a clarification issued to a news item published in these columns on January 3, Mr. Siddappa said: "We have requested authorities to take necessary action to stop stone quarrying by doing blasting and at no point of time have we demanded shifting of quarry''. The Power Grid official did not explain as to how a quarry could continue at its existing location by stopping stone quarrying with blasting.
