BANGALORE, JAN. 9. Barely a year after Bangalore hosted the "India International Clean Energy" exhibition-cum-conference, it is time for another event on the same theme. The latest one called International Congress on Renewable Energy (ICORE) will be held here from January 21 to 23. And like last year, State and Central "green energy" agencies, Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Ltd. (KREDL) and the Union Ministry of Non-conventional Energy Sources (MNES), play a prominent role here too. Even Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd. is involved this time. This year, the focus is more on solar energy as ICORE is organised by the Solar Energy Society of India (SESI). Besides, the keynote address on the inaugural day will be from the president of the US-based International Solar Energy Society. The organisers told presspersons that ICORE differed from last year's event in that "this is much bigger". However, both events dealt with very similar themes, namely, to increase and encourage use of more renewable energy - through solar photo voltaics, bio-fuels, wind, co-generation, small hydro etc. A "Parisara jagruthi jatha" or a mobile demonstration of renewable energy products will be held on January 21. An essay competition for colleges on the topic, "Renewable energy systems and eco-friendly practices toward sustainable development in India", is also being held. For details on the "jatha", call 220 2214. To register for ICORE, call 312 3238/2676 or email: registration@icore.com' or log onto `www.icore2004'com.
