Sheethal has it easy

HYDERABAD, JAN. 10. Sheethal Goutham faced few problems in subduing Farah Mahmood 6-1, 6-3 in the Soma-Seven Hills International Tennis Federation $10,000 women's tournament qualifiers at the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh complex here on Saturday.

Sheethal didn't have much to do, as her inexperienced rival made a lot of mistakes. Mahmood's double faults were many and her higher ranked opponent didn't really have to exert herself. Fresh out of Jain College, Bangalore, an alma mater she shares with snooker sensation Pankaj Advani and Rohan Bopanna besides a string of other internationals, Sheethal complimented Farah on her game.

Hyderabad native Meghana Paritala scored an even more facile 6-1, 6-1 win over Preethi Shravan. Putting her height to good use, Paritala varied her returns well, keeping Preethi on the run for most of the one-sided contest.

The results (qualifiers): Sheethal Goutham bt Farah Mahmood 6-1, 6-3, Iciri Rai bt Bharathy Parthasarathy 6-0, 6-0, Khushchehr Italia bt Spandana Paluri 6-0, 6-4, Sandra Sasidharan bt Megha Panuganthi 6-0, 6-0, Meghana Paritala bt Preethi Shravan 6-1, 6-1. — Our Special Correspondent
