Infant found dumped on riverbed

MADURAI, JAN.10. The body of a premature female infant was found dumped on Vaigai riverbed here on Friday.

According to the sources, a passer-by noticed the body wrapped in a polythene bag and alerted the police.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the baby, born to G. Pandeeswari (22) of Koodal Nagar in the Government Rajaji Hospital on Thursday, died soon after its birth.

The parents handed over the body to an unidentified woman near the hospital for disposal.

The woman allegedly dumped the body on the riverbed behind the hospital. The Mathichiam police are investigating.
