By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, JAN. 10. Members of a gang gunned down a Haryana police constable and injured the leader of a rival gang inside a court premises at Gurgaon in Haryana today. While three gangsters were later shot dead in an hour-long encounter with the police, one of their accomplices was arrested. Two firearms and an automatic carbinewere recovered.

When Hemant, who allegedly heads a gang, was produced in court and was being taken back by three police personnel, some persons opened fire on them. While the court wall was riddled with bullets, constable Rajesh Kumar sustained a bullet injury in the back and a bullet got embedded in Hemant's stomach.

Some police personnel deployed in the court premises rushed to the spot after hearing the gunshots. But the assailants fled in two vehicles. Constable Rajesh and Hemant were rushed to a hospital where Rajesh was declared dead on arrival. Since the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mulayam Singh Yadav, was scheduled to visit the district, there was heavy police presence in the area.
