ANANTAPUR, JAN. 10. The Organisation for People's Democratic Rights (OPDR) has come down heavily on the State Government for allegedly persecuting activists of human and civil rights organisations by linking them with naxalites. Speaking at the 9th district convention of the organisation here today, the State general secretary of the OPDR, Bhaskar Rao, said that they had no connection with naxalites in any way. He urged rights organisations to fight only for civil and human rights. He also alleged that the State and Central Governments were adopting double standards on the issue of irrigation. They failed in solving the problems of the farming community, he said, and urged people to resort to agitations against closure of industries and lack of irrigation facilities. The State president of the organisation, Sudhakar, the district president, Ramkumar, the State general secretary of the APCLC, Seshaiah, the State president of Jana Sahiti, Suryasagar, and others spoke. A rally was also taken out in the evening.
