MANGALORE, JAN. 10. The Minister for Large and Medium-scale Industries, R.V. Deshpande, said today that the Government was making efforts to turn the coastal belt of the State into the "gold coast of India'' by attracting large investments. He was inaugurating the 34th district conference of Rotary International District 3180, which comprises nine revenue districts, here. Mr. Deshpande said investment brought prosperity, and no State or country could develop without investments. The Government was taking steps to ensure that resources in the coastal belt were utilised to improve the economy. But, large investments were needed. However, there should be a balance between development projects and conservation of ecology, and projects should not be implemented at the cost of the environment. A venture that posed a threat to environment should not be taken up, he added.
