Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, JAN. 10. The BJP MLA, A. M. Krishnamoorthy, today alleged that Department of Civil Supplies and Block Development Office (BDO) personnel had not enumerated many poor families in the Reddiarpalayam Assembly constituency (that he represents) for updating ration cards. Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Krishnamoorthy said the department and the BDO had announced the dates during which the officers would visit the families in the constituency. But, nobody visited the area. The authorities told him that shortage of staff was the reason for non-enumeration. Mr. Krishnamoorthy said it was the lapse on the part of the official machinery. The poor families should not be affected for the discrepancies in the implementation of the scheme. Fresh enumeration should be done early.
Free garments
The MLA alleged delay in the distribution of free garments to the poor. The dhotis and saris should have been made available by this time. He would stage a demonstration in front of the Department of Women and Child Development office on January 22 demanding early implementation of the scheme. Mr. Krishnamoorthy later had a meeting with the Lieutenant Governor, N.N. Jha, at the Raj Nivas here.
