ONGOLE, JAN. 10. The Progressive Organisation of Women and Progressive Democratic Students Union have demanded the arrest of the accused in the molestation of a minor girl in Pondur village under Tangutur police station limits. In two separate statements released to the press here on Saturday, the POW district president, Shakhamuri Bharati, and the PDSU president, M. Srujana, said a 19-year-old youth, Mannem Nagaraju, had allegedly sexually assaulted the 15 year-old mentally retarted girl, left behind at her grandmother's residence by her parents who had migrated in search of work. The youth had allegedly even abetted 60-year-old Areti Malakondaiah and Mannam Ankaiah (56) in raping the girl. He later threatened her to remain silent. As the girl was mentally unsound she did not tell anyone about the incidents. The leaders of the organisation, Bharati and Mastanamma and Srujana today visited the victim who was said to be pregnant and undergoing treatment at a hospital in the town. They said the girl's pregnancy came to light when she was examined by the doctor for some other ailment. They demanded immediate arrest and severe punishment to the accused. Meanwhile, the Tangutur police said a case was registered under Section 376 of IPC and investigation was on. The Singarayakonda CI, Ch. Venkateswar Rao was investigating the case, they said.
