Seven held in triple murder case

The Commissioner of Police, A.B. Venkateswara Rao, with the persons arrested in connection with the triple murder case in Vijayawada.

VIJAYAWADA, JAN. 10. City police have claimed a breakthrough in the sensational triple murder at the Jadagamvari Street, Suryaraopet on January 4 with the arrest of seven persons including a woman.

The murder was attributed to a property dispute between the deceased and the accused. The dead bodies of Namburi Sundaram (60), a retired head master, his wife Namburi Venkata Satya Subrahmanyeswari and their teenaged daughter Namburi Venkata Rama Krishna alias Naga Ratnabambika (18), a B. Tech student were found at their house in a pool of blood.

Announcing the breakthrough at a press conference here, the city Police Commissioner, A.B. Venkateswara Rao, said the disputed property at Suryaraopet measuring 850 square yards belonged to one Varalakshmi, who died in 2000.

Police say Varalakshmi had made a will bequeathing 250 square yards to her son, Guduru Malleswra Swami, 250 square yards to her daughter, Marumulla Maruthi Kumari, and the remaining 350 square yards to her brother Radhakrishna.

It is alleged that Maruthi Kumari bore a grudge against the deceased Subrahmanyeswari, the younger sister of Varalakshmi, for allegedly `usurping' the entire 850 square yards in the name of the deceased's elder daughter Kalipradha. After the death of Kalirpadha in a road accident in October last year, the property was again transferred in the name of the younger daughter Naga Ratnabambika. Maruthi Kumari and her husband Umamaheswar, who runs a mess, filed a law suit, but the case was decided in favour of the deceased. Subsequently, the accused made several attempts for an out-of-court settlement of the dispute, which Subrahmanyeswarai and her husband spurned. Following this it is stated that on January 4, Uma Maheswar and Maruthi Kumari with the help of Tirumala Setti Sivaiah, Songala Babji, Krishna and Giri -- all employed in the mess -- came to the house of the deceased around 4.30 a.m. and axed the couple to death and later strangulated the girl.

After the offence Maruthi Kumari went to Eluru to attend the 10th day ceremony of a relative while Uma Maheswar took shelter at his elder brother's house in Eluru. Based on various clues the accused were arrested at several places.

Mr. Rao complimented the South Zone CI, N. Venkata Reddy, the Suryaraopet R SI, G. Jaya Surya, and their staff for promptly solving the case within six days of the incident. He said the staff responsible for the breakthrough would be suitably rewarded.
