TDP leader hits out at critics

SRIKAKULAM, JAN. 10 . The TDP Srikakulam district president and former MLA, G. Appala Suryanarayana, today dared his "detractors'' in the party to suggest an alternative candidate from Srikakulam to the high command rather than organising "dissident meetings.''

Mr. Suryanarayana's strong reaction came in the wake of the former DCCB chairman, Sintu Sudhakara Rao, and others holding a "dissident meeting'' here yesterday. Mr. Suryanarayana, who reportedly got a nod for his candidature from Srikakulam, questioned the credentials of Mr. Sudhakara Rao in comparison to his own long stint in the TDP. He had been in public life for the last 18 years taking up development works honestly and in a dedicated manner, Mr. Suryanarayana claimed.

In an indirect admission of the conditions in the party, he said though his self-respect was dented at times, he was going on in view of the party's interest and people's welfare. He always kept party interests above his personal prestige, he said in a statement here.

On the other hand, he recalled that Mr. Sudhkara Rao, after completion of his term as DCCB chairman which he got as a TDP man, had joined the Congress and supported that party's candidate in the last Assembly elections. After changing parties, he joined the TDP recently.
