Kerala humbles Karnataka

CHENNAI, JAN. 10. Kerala stunned Karnataka by four wickets in a last over finish, even as holder Tamil Nadu and Hyderabad registered facile victories in the third round matches of the Subbiah Pillai tournament here on Saturday.

At the MAC Stadium, Karnataka, inserted, was dismissed for 215 in 47.4 overs with Kerala pacemen Prashant Chandran and Tinu Yohannan picking up five and three wickets respectively.

Kerala's chase was well orchestrated by opener Sujith Somasundar (60, 76b, 9x4), and middle-order batsman C. Hemant Kumar (61, 87b, 2x4, 1x5). All-round effort

Skipper S. Suresh claimed three for 36 and then made 62 (82b, 5x4, 2x6) to star in Tamil Nadu's five-wicket win over Andhra at the IIT-Chemplast ground.

In pursuit of 208, the host managed to gain the bonus point by reaching the target in 39.2 overs and posted its third successive win.

Suresh and Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan (42, 56b, 3x4) put on 114 for the opening wicket in 135 balls before S.R. Ganesh Kumar rattled up a 35-ball 38. Earlier, Y. Venugopala Rao (70, 92b, 7x4) shone in the Andhra innings while pacemen Suresh and D.J. Gokulakrishnan scalped three batsmen each. Andhra has one victory in three games.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu opener Sadagopan Ramesh has been included in the squad for the remaining matches, against Hyderabad and Karnataka, on January 11 and 12.

At MAC: Karnataka 215 in 47. 4 overs (R. Barrington 27, T. Naidu 55, B. Akhil 46, Vinay Uthappa 26, P. Chandran five for 63, T. Yohannan three for 34) lost to Kerala 216 for six in 49.2 overs (Sujith Somasundar 60, C. Hemant Kumar 61, A. Kudua 46). Kerala 4, Karnataka 0.

At IIT-Chemplast: Andhra 207 in 46.3 overs (Y. Venugopala Rao 70, G. Sankar Rao 33, D.J. Gokulakrishnan three for 43, S. Suresh three for 36) lost to Tamil Nadu 211 for five in 39.2 overs (S. Suresh 62, Vidyut 42, S.R. Ganesh Kumar 38). Tamil Nadu 5, Andhra 1.

At ICL-Guru Nanak: Hyderabad 268 for six in 50 overs (Daniel Manohar 53, Anirudh Singh 37, D. Vinay Kumar 68 not out, Vishnuvardhan 52, Amit Dani three for 55) bt Goa 167 in 47 overs (S. Asnodgar 47, Indrasekar Reddy three for 30, T. Suman three for 31). Hyderabad 5, Goa 1.
