Liquor racket busted
The accused, Pradeep, was coming from Gurgaon to the Capital when the Army personnel on patrol intercepted his Maruti Zen. On searching, they allegedly recovered 192 bottles of rum from the vehicle, following which they informed the local police. During interrogation, Pradeep allegedly disclosed that he had procured the bottles from someone in Gurgaon. Since the bottles bear stickers suggesting that they were meant for sale only to Defence personnel, the police suspect that they had been procured from Canteen Store Department. However, they also suspect that the liquor might turn out to be spurious. Hence samples of the seized liquor have been sent to the lab for tests. Meanwhile, efforts are on to nab the supplier.

Telgi case
NEW DELHI JAN. 10 .The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the investigations into two of the fake stamp paper cases pertaining to the scamster, Abdul Karim Telgi, which had been registered by the Delhi police.
It is learnt that the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi police had written twice to the CBI to take over the cases registered at Daryaganj and Hauz Khas police stations, as they had inter-State ramifications. On Friday, the CBI registered two cases against those and took over the investigations. The EOW had already arrested over half-a-dozen people in these cases.
Earlier, the CBI had taken over the investigations into another fake stamp paper case registered at Kalkaji police station, but no significant development has been made in that matter so far. It is learnt that yet another case, which was registered at Defence Colony police station, would also be handed over to the CBI within a fortnight. Sources said, the EOW is relieved to hand over the cases, as several questioned were being raised about the alleged negligence of Delhi police officers in probing them.
