VUDA to place draft master plan before people

VISAKHAPATNAM, JAN. 10. The board of directors of the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) has okayed the proposal to place the draft master plan of Visakhapatnam Urban Agglomeration before the public to seek their opinion to incorporate necessary changes.

The VUDA board, which met here on Saturday under the presidentship of its Chairman, S.A. Rehaman, decided to display copies of the draft master plan at the municipal and local body offices and put it on its website.

"Basing on the feedback from the public, we will finalise the master plan,'' Dr. Rehaman, and the Vice-Chairman, D. Sreenivasulu, told reporters later.

Another important decision taken at the board meeting, apparently keeping an eye on the coming Assembly polls, was to reserve 10 per cent of the plots ranging from 75 to 100 square yards in all layouts being approved by VUDA for the members of unorganised sector like carpenters and construction workers. The board approved the proposal to construct colonies at Kurmannapalem, Kapuluppada, Rushikonda, Chittivalasa, Anakapalle, Akkireddipalem and Vizianagaram. Each flat/house admeasuring 200 to 300 square feet will cost between Rs. 85,000 to Rs. 3.5 lakhs.

The allotments will be done on first-come-first-serve basis. If required, allotment will be made through draw of lot.

Besides agreeing to extend the facility to pay two-third penal interest on loan arrears to the defaulters (among allottees of houses in Sagarnagar and other housing colonies) to March 31, the board decided to auction the VUDA guesthouses in the city located in posh Daspalla Hills and at Bhimunipatnam. The Vice-Chairman has been asked to prepare alternate plans.

Asked to comment on the High Court stay on widening of Beach Road, Mr. Sreenivasulu said that as per the court orders, they would seek environmental clearance for the entire project from the Ministry of Environment and Forests and declined to comment further on the issue stating that the subject was sub judice.
