Fall in humidity

The city recorded a maximum temperature of 28.9 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 15.2 degrees Celsius. Humidity which was 83 per cent in the morning, dropped to 49 per cent in the night.

Commodity prices

Following are the prices of essential commodities in the wholesale market (per kg) on Saturday according to Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry: groundnut oil (Rs. 54), palmolein oil (Rs. 45.25), sunflower oil (Rs. 53), tamarind-flower variety (Rs. 15 to Rs. 20.50), tamarind-karipuli variety (Rs. 23 to Rs. 27), chillies (Rs. 37 to Rs. 40), rice-2716 (Rs. 11 to Rs. 11.50), rice-super fine (Rs. 13. Rs. 13.50), rice-Samba Masoori (Rs. 13.50 to Rs. 14), black gram (Rs. 19) and red gram (Rs. 27).

Power shutdown

Residents of Kothapet area will not have power from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The move was to facilitate shifting of electric poles in Chittinagar, Anjaneyavagu, Gollapalemgattu, Sorangam centre, Tailorpet, Frizerpet, Edigamahal road, Brahmamgari Matham and Ilill under Kothapet division.

More RTC buses

The State Road Transport Corporation, Krishna division, will press into service at least 110 additional special services from Vijayawada to Hyderabad, for four days from January 10, to counter the additional crowds during Sankranthi. Special buses will also be run from the district to Rajahmundry, Kakinada, Visakhapatnam, Bahdrachalam, Srisailam and Tirupati.
